Even if he was stealing alcohol from the restaurant, that’s no reason to kill him.

Indecom definitely needs to investigate this one

Human rights lobby group Jamaicans for Justice (JFJ) is organising a protest in Kingston on April 29, highlighting the huge increase in police killings this year to date. JFJ is also expressing concern at the reported use of masks and balaclavas by the police during operations in some communities.
Jamaicans for Justice protest will highlight an alarming rise in police killings in 2025
According to the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM), the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has shot and killed 95 people this year to date (as of April 15, 2025). This compares to 189 fatal shootings for the whole of last year, and is a 165 percent increase over the same period of three and a half months in 2024. (INDECOM is…

In yesterday's 6pm RJR News, I heard that there were 35 murders in #Jamaica last month, Sept 2026.
Earlier that day, I looked at INDECOM website & saw there were 30 fatal shootings by the security forces in Jamaica last month, Sept 2026.

Sept 2026: 35 murders & 30 police fatal shootings.

No, it was not. Emphasis on "GOOD cops." INDECOM is very professional and cooperates well with the JCF.

I want to argue that our attitude towards indecom, JFJ, body worn cameras, Jamaica Eye, and red light and speed cameras come from the same place.
As a nation, we do not like anything that can hold us accountable.
We know the solution is not brute force, but it is convenient to pretend.

Blaming human rights groups and INDECOM for an increase in murders is certainly a stretch. But I know where this man is coming from!

Jamaica's security forces continue their one-a-day fatal shooting rate since the beginning of 2025. As of March 3, 2025...62 days into the year...59 people have been killed by the security forces. Three of those ocurred in March. INDECOM's website: www.indecom.gov.jm/reports #INDECOM #Jamaica

Indecom has ruled that the 2 officers planted a weapon on the scene of that ‘shoot out’ a couple weeks ago and as such should be charged w murder… damn.

170 days into 2025 and the Jamaican police have killed 154 people. 18 people killed so far in June. 5 people were killed today. The graphic below is taken from the INDECOM website, on June 19, 2025. www.indecom.gov.jm/reports #Jamaica

Oh I didn’t know he was a policeman. INDECOM is a government agency and so far as I know they cooperate very well with the police. Human rights groups have their own mandate but it is not true that they “defend gunmen.” Every human being has rights, no?!

I watched the CCTV footage of this shooting and it made my blood run cold. She was in a van. They fired into the van, then hauled her out. A pickup truck pulled up, 2 officers slung her in the back. Police have killed 130 people this year.

The Jamaican police have killed 230 people in 2025 - four in the past 48 hours and 20 this month. In one recent case, CCTV footage was posted online. Jamaicans for Justice, the Public Defender and others urge mandatory use of body-worn cameras. The police are expecting a delivery "in coming weeks."
Police killings in Jamaica are soaring this year, all without body-worn cameras
I heard the news report this evening that the Jamaican police have (allegedly) shot dead four men in the space of 48 hours, which the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is investigating. Earlier this week, they killed an allegedly mentally ill man (not for the first time). Don't they know how to disarm or disable someone like that? Do they get any training in martial arts?

He's a policeman, so it won't be a fully objective view. However, the optics of INDECOM and those who defend the gunmen while ignoring what they did aren't very popular with most Jamaicans.
