I'm a powerlifter and the fact that at IPF worlds the spotters aren't more closely vetted bc this is an insane safety risk for everyone involved.
apparently a white nationalist volunteered as a spotter at the International Powerlifting Federation world champs and deliberately sabotaged Sonita Muluh's world record attempt, and then outed himself as such online. what an era

What bothers me just as much is this: how was someone like Ernestas Kusinas even in a position to spot athletes at an IPF World Championship? This is the biggest stage in powerlifting. How are Black athletes supposed to feel safe stepping onto that platform after this?
