One big point amid all the headlines: I was texting with press secretary Karoline Leavitt during the event and she confirms that the 34 percent tariff on China is ON TOP of the previous 20 percent. So that means the rate on China will be *54* percent when these tariffs take effect.

I think both calling for abolishing ICE is fine and casting what ICE is doing as inherent to immigration enforcement is an extremely bad idea because if you frame the choice as "open borders or this" lots of people will choose this. It also just isn't true, Canada has borders and IRCC don't do this

(To be clear, IRCC literally created a policy that requires journalists to register with the government just to get their questions answered
It's possible IRCC is dealing with legitimate problems with far-right media outlets, but making journalists register with the government is not a solution)

In Canada CBSA is currently attempting to criminalize immigrants with IRCC approval over ownership of books by authors like William Gibson, Murakami & JG Ballard - calling the fiction CP, Hate Speech &/or Obscenity
The whole point of defending the right for uncomfortable, or even reprehensible fiction to have the right to exist isnt that its all cool and nothing is ever wrong with it

Citizenship application out the door! Should arrive at IRCC on Tuesday.
At last, almost four months since submitting my request to a French form I could barely read and almost a month since I sent in the $350 CAD they invoiced me for, I have received a certified copy of my grandfather's Canadian birth record.

contacted the office at my employer, they more or less called me an idiot, submitted one form to IRCC, and sorted everything out. anyway, the lesson here is to never trust a lawyer under 40.

This is actually the public attitude we need to fix in Canada. More immigrants good! More homes, more jobs, more neighbours!

It is unconscionable that Canada is refusing to process the immigration applications of students in Gaza accepted to Canadian schools.
Two have already died while waiting.
This is an atrocity and universities should be intervening.

Global Affairs Canada doesn't want to deal with yet another tantrum from the USA and they don't want to piss off IRCC by having it used as part of a refugee hearing.
The community knows it's bad and doesn't really need to be spoon fed from an official site.
