🆘 This week I visited the #DilleyDetentionCenter.
It’s a jail in the desert used to imprison children.

I saw with my own eyes how Trump and ICE lie, and lie, and lie‼️

🧵Missed diagnoses, delayed treatment and poor medical care are driving record deaths in ICE custody.

@kolyncheang.bsky.social and I spent months investigating the deaths of ICE detainees across the US. Over and over again, we found lapses in treatment that proved fatal.

Hayam El Gamal and her five children have been locked away at the Dilley trailer prison for almost a year.

The mother has fluid near her heart and is in severe pain but won’t be given proper care. The 16-year-old son had delayed treatment for appendicitis.

We found that just 9 facilities of more than 200 accounted for half of the deaths that have taken place since Trump retook office.

Members of the Ayala family and other relatives of the detainees described the fear and worry of their loved ones' detentions, of their concerns about lack of treatment, only to learn their loved ones' deaths.

“I want justice,” Ismael's mother told me. “They’re not animals. … This was a sin.”

Ismael Ayala-Uribe complained about rectal pain. ICE med staff gave him stool softeners, but didn't actually examine him, and never found the abscess that later flooded his body with toxic bacteria and killed him.
