In the first story his uncle(?) says he has to earn the Ibistick, but I think he knew he'd lose it and embarrass him!

(So you know, he catches up with the truck, which he's way out of scale in this drawing, and his head looks tiny, and I don't really blame the truck driver for not wanting to get involved.)

Today is the birthday of artist Gus Ricca (Feb. 22, 1906-April 27, 1956). In addition to comic books & pulp magazines, Ricca’s illustrations appeared in magazines such as Time, Collier’s, & Esquire.
Punch Comics #12 (1945). Several bodies and a man shooting a gun are half emerging from the orifices of a giant skull. Another man is shooting back from on top of the skull. Dynamic Comics #11 (1944). A mad scientist is dropped liquid into a test tube. The liquid is drowning a small person inside the tube. In the other test tubes are several more small people, including a criminal, a woman, a detective, and a frightened woman. Ibis the Invincible #3 (1945). Ibis leads Taia through a dark tunnel, using his Ibistick to light their way. Dynamic Comics #8 (1944). The cover features several floating heads, including one that has the top of his head removed, exposing the top of his brain. He is holding a candlestick and his face appears to be melting.

The first 'Big Boy Comic' I bought was this bad boy. I had an epiphany at a convention that I could buy books with GA characters I'd read through 70s DC reprints (in Detective Comics, in Ibis' case). #comicsky #comicbooks
Ibis the Invincible #4 cover credit uncertain. Possibly George McDonald. Prince Amentep uses the Ibistick to lift Taia and himself out of a Volcano while people pursuing them fall to their doom. A giant bird seems to be heading towards them in the far background. A text band at the bottom states "In this Issue: IBIS and the MYSTIC SNAKE PEOPLE".

Ibis was Fawcett Comic's principal prestidigitator, an ancient Egyptian prince revived in the modern-day (with his partner, the princess Taia of Thebes) to battle evil with the all-powerful Ibistick. He appeared in his own title as well as dozens of others...

From "The Battle in Toyland" by Alex Blum, Ibis #1 (1943)Fawcett's Ibis the Invincible had about a dozen true DC Comics appearances in late 90s Power of Shazam, and another in the late 2000s, around Reign in Hell, but he's easy to forget, probably because DC already has a turbaned magician in Sargon the Sorcerer. He used a gem instead of an "Ibistick". Every so often, someone brings out for a spin, like James Tynion IV in Justice League Dark, but it feels like none of these iterations are the same.Or I just don't have enough Ibis on my bookshelf to tell.
