A log on the lakeshore seems to have grown a beard of ice. Beside it a pair of icy shrimp-like shapes draw the curious eye. Icicles coat a plant in the center of the image, draping it in crystal. At right an icy scepter seems to grow from the ground. Several odd ice forms appear along the bank of the lake, with moving water in the background.

I am fascinated by the #iceformation. Those large circles -- what's responsible for that symmetry, the process that 1) picks the centre, 2) determines radius, isotropic (same regardless of direction, ie. circle), and 3) quite similar across several circles.

I'd be interested to hear if you learn more about this! It would have been not too far below freezing, and a superfine mist/fog thing might've been going on. Here's another shot, closer, showing some interesting ripples within some of the cells.

It looks like my kayaking through the slushy lake earlier this winter has a curious effect on the way the ice formed near my putin spot. I had fun playing with Gimp to enhance to make the rings more apparent.

Was it a very clean window? (Could it have had some residual cleaning chemicals / detergent on it, do you think, or not likely?)

The spacing and banding is so regular -- wow.
