This makes me beyond furious. That area is near (or at)where the Iditarod kicks off and is some gorgeous pristine wilderness dotted with public use cabins.

One of my students’ favorite units was on the famous vaccine run. Then in March the students would each pick a musher in the Iditarod. If their musher won they’d get an Iditarod Tshirt. We’d check on the mushers’ progress everyday. Also, had an Iditarod vet come speak to my students.

I want to be clear that I don’t know where the exact area targeted, but that the Iditarod kicks off outside of Willow and given the three towns named it has to be at the very least in the nearish surrounding area.

Next year I get 10 days, and half will be taken up by UP200 and Iditarod* so I'll probably do a shorter vacation somewhere late summer and save a day for doctor appointments.
* I'm not going to Fairbanks if the El Niño moves the restart there due to the extra days I'd need to take off
