#Ifelse
the ifelse function having entirely different syntax to an if else statement kind of makes me want to shake whoever coded it that way

There's also always `ifelse()`.

I never did forth, but I used to write raw PostScript back in the day and its if syntax was rather different (it would have been Forth Love {honk} {} ifelse). I was surprised to discover that the forth if syntax was rather different with the conditionally executed code after the if.

サモナイ遊んでるときもここにifelse文入ってるのかな〜魔王化の変数的なものって会話と戦闘で値分けてるのかな〜などとか想像したりしなかったりする

Gonna write a novel now, where Lord Andor is residing at Castle Ifelse, District of Gototen. His opponent is the evil Duke Movel, a non-classy object disoriented member of the sect of the Lovers of Leaked Memory (LLM). But it all appears hallucinated, when Lady Ultraviolet Chipleta arrives...

"Researchers AT THE COMPANY"

Gee, guess I have no choice but to believe these people are so stupid they forgot they coded in all those ifelse blocks to respond to keywords.

Also, shame on you @wired.com for even publishing this garbage like it means anything.

Stop Orchestrating Business Logic with if/else — A Better Way in Java
If you’re building backend systems in Java, you’re already orchestrating business logic. You just don’t call it that. Every time you write something like: if ( isValid ( order )) { var enriched =...

Oh I thought we were literally reconstructing the ifelse function.

In that case, this is just any lookup function or use of switch:

Not sure what is called, though the name matches the intent. This comes from lambda calculus - all you need is functions to build everything. And, or, not can be made also and the you have a language

def TRUE(x, y):
return x

def FALSE(x, y):
return y

def IFELSE(p, x, y):
return p(x, y)

def ifelse(value, x, y, z):
return (z, y)[x != value]

🤷‍♂️

A fun but really really deep programming puzzle - in your favorite language, without using the existing built-in booleans TRUE, FALSE and conditional keywords like IF, ELSE or IFELSE, write a function ifelse(x, y, z) which returns y if x is one value and z otherwise.

My favorites from what I got:

- “Nested ifelse() builds character”
- "attach() gets a bad rap"
- "setwd() isn't that bad"
- "Excel is underrated"

Clean code is happy code. 💻

In #Xojo, choosing between If...Else and Select Case can transform your app's readability. Use Select Case for organized lists and ranges, or If...Else for complex logic.

lol oh no

my first thought is, yours is worst-case quadratic if x is all NA, but linear if there are no NAs

so just throw outer() at it so it's always quadratic:

I love R, but the behaviour of ifelse when you combine scalars and vectors is really unintuitive. E.g., Guess the result of the line behaviour.

ifelse(1 == 2, "Yes", c("Yes", "No"))
