During the Bangkok Metropolitan Council meeting on July 23, councilors expressed strong concerns over the persistent problem of illegal waste dumping into the city’s canals. They criticized the lack of enforcement, inadequate waste management systems, and poor public awareness—factors that contribute to clogged waterways, foul odors, and increased flood risk. Several issues were highlighted: Many canals are filled with large waste items such as mattresses and furniture, obstructing drainage and damaging ecosystems.

Stop illegal waste dumps! The Environment Agency must act.
