Harper’s playing Illimat

We can confirm. Not quite the full five stars as it’s a mish-mash of European folktales to make an American mythology, but it’s dark and at times unforgiving. A bit like the beloved game Illimat, so it’s no surprised to find Colin Meloy of the Decemberists and Carson Ellis behind the original book.
Just got out of Wildwood and I was stunned by this film. A gorgeously animated film that NEEDS to be seen on the big screen. This dark fantasy doesn't hold back with it's intense battles and harrowing moments. Please go see this film in the cinemas while you can. Easily the best film of 2026 5/5!

Theyre my all time favorite band! They actually commissioned that Illimat game I mentioned (I think I also mentioned this in the dream), their most recent album is one of their best, and it all leads up to Joan in the Garden which is 19 minutes long and goes insane

I think Illimat should get more attention as a good boardgame for beginners. The mechanics are simple enough with just enough wrinkles to make things interesting. Plus the design and artwork is great.

Hey Jenn! I've been thinking about how to go about implementing a video game version of Illimat for a long while—I'm a fan!

I've made a little progress here and there over the years and I'd love to see if I can help you all work towards creating a faithful adaptation. :)

Someone recently told me the origin story of the game Illimat, and I said, "I thought it was gonna turn out that they just sold the physical elements from the photoshoot and you had to figure out/make up the rules yourself -- because I'm @amabel.bsky.social -pilled."

Happy Friday, friendos! What's a game you randomly discovered on a whim & grew to love it?!

For example: I walked by a card game on sale at a record store on a trip to Portland, Oregon in 2017. Caught my eye bc it was sponsored by The Decemberists & now Illimat is one of my all time fav card games.

Illimat! It’s a rather simple board game, with a whole lot of depth. Small decisions can have a large impact.

Played two new board games over the weekend: Illimat and Forest Shuffle. Absolutely loved both and I think they are simple enough to actually get some buy-in from the friends and family :D Have a gathering in two weeks so we'll see how they go!

Ark Nova is the most replayable game we've encountered, it's not short (to put it mildly), but it is A LOT of fun. Everdell places second imo. Especially with some of the expansions. Both really great games. Illimat is a fun twist on traditional card games. Quick to play.

I love games that feel like classic games—and Illimat is such a good match for the drama and feel of a good 2p card game like Gin Rummy or Koi Koi.
