Interesting. I usually use ImageMagick to do conversions, but there is some stuff around HDR and HEIC that it doesn’t support. I wonder if this uses ImageIO and/or CoreImage, thus supporting system-wide capabilities.

i’ve put together a quick little cli (using macOS imageIO for easy input) and benchmarking suite. 🤓
unsurprisingly there are some substantial performance gains by using tweaked compilation options. 😎

The python uses numpy and imageio to produce frames, and I sent those through ffmpeg. (Then Bluesky recompressed it.)

I was also struggling with that - the gif would animate in the preview but not the post.
Not sure what the timeline for a fix/feature is there. If you are a python-user, I use the library "imageio" to convert gifs to mp4, and to concatenate them. bsky.app/profile/palo...

Friends using #pico8! I have found gif support here to be spotty so far. I use the following python script to translate my gifs to a mp4. See the alt text to copy-paste it.

other apps do though. several Fedi clients (including mine) use IPTC description metadata for alt text, and iOS/macOS Photos can see it and search by it
implementing IPTC alt text round tripping is trivial with Apple's ImageIO, literally a few hours, but idk React Native, might be harder x-platform

No single package. Cell outlines come from the segmentation masks (HDF5 label images), matplotlib does the painting (cells colored by growth rate), networkx builds the proximity network (edges join neighbours within a correlation range), and imageio + ffmpeg stitch the frames into the movie.

sips wraps Apple's ImageIO, so HEIC decode + ColorSync come free - handy for quick heic to jpg since stock magick builds often lack the HEIC delegate. magick wins once you need real ops (compose, morphology, batch logic). I keep both: sips for Apple formats, magick for the rest.

Like the only things I really feel are missing in Java are unsigned integers and WebP support in the ImageIO library. I had a longer list, but most of my concerns are being addressed with OpenJDK's Project Valhalla.

Yeah, I've butted heads with other LWJGL developers throughout the development of my engine. Namely:
-Using Java's ImageIO over TinyPNG or STB
-Using NBT over JSON for saves and prefab rooms
-Making a custom mesh format over using ASSIMP
The only libraries I'm using are OpenGL/AL and Steamworks
