A year ago this evening we were on The Mall in D.C. watching the fireworks… just before heading north into Canada by way of heat-wave NYC, Boston, & (surprising breakout star) Camden, Maine. Pics from #IndependenceDay2024, tho (had previously been there for #IndependenceDay2009) :
Pic 1 in a chronological sequence, as we made our way to The Washington Monument after the last rainshower of the day. My kid, decked out in 4th of July colors, standing with The Capitol building well behind her. The Mall from the Washington Monument at sundown, a crowd between us and the Lincoln Memorial A family shot: kid, wife, me, & an explosion in midair behind us. The White House lit up as we made our way to try to find some kind of transportation back to our lodging, alongside the expected mass of people.
