Boarding the #IndianPacific 🇦🇺 at #Sydney Central. The train is almost 30 cars long. The 4,352 km long journey to #Perth, on the other end of #Australia, will last 65 hours they say. Plenty of mileage ahead then. And what a beautiful train!

#Perth 🇦🇺 is the terminus station for the #IndianPacific from #Sydney, yet it’s not the end of the line: on a suburban train one can reach #Fremantle, a port town right by the Indian Ocean. (And it’s got a really nice train station.)

The first full day on the #IndianPacific 🇦🇺 with an afternoon arrival into #Adelaide. Nice views from the cabin window throughout. On some occasions, when the train is going through a curve, one can see the two engines at the front of the train‘s long consist.

I did Adelaide-Perth on the IndianPacific in the 90s, and the slowness was the point, 30 odd hours sitting in red plush chairs, looking out onto the Nullarbor and sipping some red stuff. Melbourne-Sydney in 2025 should be a 3-hour affair, and it's embarassing that it is not.
