Publishing remains one of the most hostile places for Indigenous people. Accommodations are rarely, if ever, made to truly make this process safe or accessible

In June, at the AmericasNLP Workshop @ NAACL, we introduced an LLM-powered approach to machine translation for low/no-resource languages. I'm so excited about this direction and can't wait to share the progress we've made since! #StayTuned #AI #LanguageRevitalization #IndigenousInSTEM #AIForGood

I met Dr. Gachupin at a SING workshop years ago. She spoke passionately about the need for more Natives studying cancer, and in general for Native scientists who would use samples ethically. She influenced a generation of #NativesInSTEM and her impact will live on for generations. #IndigenousInSTEM

Any Indigenous doctor - the academic kind - they’ve got stories. Most I’ve talked to have had to deal with the wildest institutional racism. It’s amazing we have any Doctors, but we need more. 3% at the very least just to be at level with population demographics.
That moment when you are calculating the demographic data of faculty in the US in 2019 and you realize you have to move the decimal point to see the number of Native faculty because we are less than 0.4% of all faculty...i just... Ugh

Thanks! I didn't realize that about linguistics!

Did you mean that Chicane is distinct from Indigenous or distinct from Latine? Right now I have separate #IndigenousInSTEM and #LatinxInSTEM feeds, I haven't added Chicane to either yet, but had considered Latinx if useful.
