as someone who grew up in 90s corporate tech, it's funny to watch people shift from tech optimism to tech pessimism precisely because social media has made public the kind of info that would usually stay locked up behind board room doors for a reason......
I would wager that tech pessimism in the US comes from exposure to the guys running these companies. Thats how it was for me, at least. I was an optimist at first! But then I read the beliefs of these tech moguls and... hoo boy. Generally repulsive people to a fault.
It’s really stunning how the USA has so swiftly shifted from being one of the most techno-optimistic and tech-industry-loving countries on earth, to a country where most people seem to assume - not incorrectly, at least in many cases - that tech is out to get them.
