#Inform7
Bun is completely a different animal from what Im going for.

Why would you even compare Bun and Inform7?

If I made a parser-based game in TADS3 or Inform7, would anybody play it?

Would it encourage people to support the development of future such games on patreon? I probably couldn't pull it off without a return because of CAPITALISM (I need work).

I did wonder if anyone would discover the pod via the game, and over on Mastodon at least one person has done just that.
Which was nice.

Hell, I advertise use of Inform7, which is a natural language programming language for writing interactive fiction.

What is are the tools that rob us of advancing our creative output.

The Mind Children text adventure / interactive fiction is taking shape... Inform7 can be frustrating, getting the right phrasing, re-learning the grammar. But I don't have the feeling of going down a blind alley with no way out that I did with The Quill.

I already feel so much happier back in Inform7... pity though, I was looking forward to an authentic ZX Spectrum Mind Children game...

I am sadly close to abandoning the idea of a ZX Spectrum version of The Mind Children game. Not because The Quill is too complex but because it doesn’t work like the manual says it should. Maybe I’ll do it in Inform7 after all.

youtu.be/uehVuzVOhwg?...

Sense were on the topic though, this is the prototype game engine and not the final version:

This was before it occurred to me to split between using #inform7 for adaptations of my novels...

And my own engine for stories going forward.

No, this post dates that quite a bit, I think.

I remember seeing a post asking for people who were interested and wanted to challenge myself. I have taken a few runs at making games, in adventure game studio, twine, inform7, and a little gamemaker and it's ALWAYS super difficult for me.

Poetry and painting is seperate enough that when you combine them youre doing an intentional fusion.

( Why Inform7 isnt traditional programming, even though it feels like it sometimes. )

Plus in converting to Inform7 you end up losing a lot of the internal monologue that gives more context.

Making it feel less like Carmilla and more like MCR The Musical.

Each new chapter is like relearning Inform7.

I'm genuinely not understanding how people make battle mechanics in Inform7, it keeps talk backing at me by saying violence is not the answer.

Whoop, attacked by a chocobo. Hey violence is not the answer.

In practice its almost the exact opposite of Inform7, in that you program based on associative relationships using prolog like brackets with constants.

thinkin' about trying to make a thing with Inform7 again
July 17, 2026 at 4:45 AM
Inform7 needs some...work before it becomes practical it at all to use.

Yes something can be both dipped in water and covered in chocolate.

I think I may try doing a sample chapter of my webfiction in Inform7 before deciding whether its worth bootstrapping a game engine with it.
July 17, 2026 at 2:47 AM
Inform7 is still great if you need an engine right now right now.

The scripting language is sort of like Inform7 but for French and Japanese. So Id eventually want to work with native French and Japanese speakers.

I would go for Renpy or Twine, but as it currently stands what my engine supports ( for a text adventure format ) is radically different from Inform7 or Twine.

Ex. Increasingly there isnt a distinction between rock paper scissors, hangman, or hopscotch as theyre subroutines of the main mechanic.

The Linux IDE for inform7 was crashing for me and had some other UI annoyances, but I think the inform compiler will probably fit really nicely into VSCode since it already generates HTML reports for everything.

I made a WASM port of inform7!

github.com/zicklag/info...

Inform is a fun way to write interactive fiction. The WASM port I made means that you can compile Inform source code to a working game in a browser, or anywhere else that can run WASI.

I think I'll try to use it to make a VScode extension.
