Aliveness is not identical to pleasure. Many of the moments in which we feel most alive involve exhaustion, inconvenience, danger, loneliness, uncertainty, or discomfort. Conversely, comfort can become deadening.

Aliveness can be exhausting, lonely, frightening, or uncomfortable. So perhaps the trajectory has been:

motivation → structured pleasure → infrastructures of aliveness

Each term seems to capture a little more of what I was actually trying to study.
