#Inkscape's
Too true, the new text tool is just awful to use compared to the old one, and Inkscape's text tool blows both of them out of the water

Some things, sure, they're stable enough. LibreOffice just works, for the most part. But something simple like undocking from an external monitor can still glitch Firefox until I forcibly resize the window. Inkscape's still got stability issues and other fascinating bugs.

Also, huge thanks to RdH for updating #Inkscape's CI infrastructure in a tight window, while balancing commitments beyond the project.

This kind of behind-the-scenes work is essential and deeply appreciated. #BugFixFriday

A non-AI route: in GIMP (free), Image > Scale Image with Interpolation set to NoHalo, then Filters > Enhance > Sharpen (Unsharp Mask). It can't invent detail, but it enlarges cleanly. If that part is a logo or simple shape, Inkscape's Path > Trace Bitmap makes a vector that prints sharp.

Also big ups to Guillaume Turri (@guillaume.turri on GitLab), who's been expanding keyboard shortcut and modifier support across #Inkscape's many actions and tools!

We're making steady progress toward 1.5, with features and fixes coming in hot! Thanks to our amazing contributors and testers! You 🪨!

A couple more: ImageMagick `magick -background none -density 384 icon.svg -resize 32x32 icon-32.png` (-background none keeps it transparent), or Inkscape's CLI `inkscape icon.svg -w 32 -o icon-32.png`. rsvg-convert is still the quickest for batches though.

i fucking hate inkscape's ui with all my heart, but would love for it to be the standard from what i know about how powerful it is under the hood. BoxySVG is actually somewhat sensible, but you have to bounce in and out of properties panels and I had some file compatibility issues last i used it.

I had the privilege of designing @shadkirb.bsky.social a fursona! Specifically, a hybrid of an axolotl and a cuttlefish. A fun task that also got me to finally learn how to use Inkscape's mesh gradient tool.

Also, special thanks to Martin Owens for tirelessly helping keep our work coordinated across #Inkscape’s various teams (all those hats aren't just for style 😉).

It takes a lot of behind-the-scenes effort to keep an open-source project moving.

We appreciate everything you do!

For such gaps and artifacts, either tweak the settings, or manually tweak the points and curves of the new vector shapes using Inkscape's regular vector editing tools, or you could even tweak the original bitmap drawing before generating the vector.

And Inkscape's customisation sucks ass compared to Gimp (which uses Scheme as its extension language and a sexp-based format for its configuration files, which rules). Inkscape just stuffs everything inside a giant, unreadable and auto-generated XML file.

Affinity is still my go-to, it's the best Photoshop Suite replacement just, on a whole.

Next best option (for what I do anyways) is Krita, BUT, that's just the drawing part, not the vectors.

And then, yeah: Pretty sure Inkscape's the best vector alternative.

I'm gonna dead-end on Affinity 2, prob

Yesterday I taught my friend how to make a snowflake in an Inkscape 101 class :) The instructions worked (and have been tweaked after the class).

tbqh me last night when I realized how undercooked and lacking sauce Inkscape's UI is

Affinity made graphic design make sense to me but it's getting jenkier with each update and it doesn't have nearly as many clever tools/options as Inkscape

Tools in creative software are exponentially less useful the harder you have to think about them

Inkscape's clone functions are a text drop down and they need to be illustrated icons

FOSS devs seem to always bend over backwards to suit old/tiny screens and abandon optimization for anything modern

It knows, for example, that it will have issues with both Illustrator and Inkscape's import architectures, whereas Affinity basically imports an SVG more or less unmodified. And it proposed a layer structure that would be relatively logical and work for both Inkscape and Affinity.

2,951 paths vs. Inkscape's DXF exporter, who will win?

So far, the paths are putting up a pretty good fight... and even if the export finishes, I have extremely low confidence that Silhouette Studio will be able to import the result without falling over.

I'd hoped to just trivially make a vector of it in Inkscape to have a replacement made, but I'm bouncing off of it hard, and Inkscape's image-to-vector tool makes an enormous mess of things, adding jagged edges out of nowhere, turning obvious circles into an uneven mess of bezier curves, etc.

Latest fun side project has been to make a font.

I use #inkscape for everything, so when I saw they had a Typeface template, I wanted to give it a try. I drew letters on paper, scanned them in. In Inkscape I found it more effective to use the “fill” tool than […]

🦝like it's wild to compare these three and just get a full realization for how absolutely scuffed GIMPs is

It's good that my old laptop can do still do that much.

I resisted upgrading my OS because Adobe Creative Suite 5.5 would stop working, but a computer crash made that decision for me. Now I'm building my post-Adobe world. A list of Adobe alternatives on GitHub has been a big help (github.com/KenneyNL/Ado...).

*squints at the first piece*
HOW THE FUCK does Inkscape's export wind up being as shitty as my broken-ass printer. What the fuck.

"Well okay so what is a good design?"

Shoutouts to Inkscape for maintaining what I think is one of the prettier websites for a desktop software. My god, it doesn't even use the entire screen width.

New Roll Out just landed.
This week: I’m reflecting on my first three months as Inkscape’s Bug Administrator.
Plus:
• My role behind the scenes
• What the milestone chart doesn’t show
• Fixes I’m excited about
