is this just addition/subtraction for the integers modulo 10 but you're not allowed to say or imply the word "group" or "integers" or "modulo"
It's pretty common for people to dismiss parents who struggle helping their kids with common core math. But the problem is really a terminology thing. Your kid comes home with this worksheet and there's no explanation to the parent what "make a 10" means. And the kid can't remember!

One of the things I really like about Beast Academy is how it elevates stuff you do with integers. In a normal elementary math education, you get the feeling that integers are "baby numbers" and the progression of math eventually all becomes the reals, which is very much not how higher math is.
Beast Academy is a cheat code. Both the books and the app are great. Khan Academy is also great, of course, but there’s a lot more interesting problem solving that Beast Academy shows young kids
This is very similar to how we approached public school, outside math through Beast Academy so they don't get bored and so they like math, and pushing them to read more and harder books than the school does.
