Eliminate interleague play. This will improve hitting performance b/c they will only have to prepare for half of the pitchers. Expand by 2 teams. Have an East & West in each league w 8 teams in each division. Slightly unbalanced schedule. Two division winners+league's next X best make the playoffs.

My bad MLB realignment scheme was to have 4 different regional divisions of 8 teams each and basically zero interleague play between them. Would make a lot more sense!

I'm going to say it again and again. No more interleague play. Expand by 2 teams so there are 16 in each league. Two divisions of 8 in each league. Unbalanced schedule is the only way it would work to keep 162, so 14 against your own division and 8 against the other division. You see the pitchers
