You could try my *Old Books & New Histories* (UTP 2006). It’s messy because of various overlaps, but I call #bookhistory an “interdiscipline” of which print culture studies is one of numerous subsidciplines.

Yet another time I read something on bsky that reminds me we really need to get back to finishing our book... demography is a well articulated "interdiscipline" with a pretty well bounded historical trajectory.

It often seems to me that the goal of interdisciplinarity (my first postdoc bore that label; most of my books have been "interdisciplinary") has an equal burden of explaining its value, as does disciplinarity, and that both discipline and interdiscipline must face the question of what they explain.

Any use of the term "body language" is a red flag.

Any attempt to quantify how much communication generally depends "body language" or "gesture" is nonsense.

That said:
- in certain contexts, gesture is reliably "truer" than words
- as others note, "gesture studies" is a thriving interdiscipline
