#OnThisDay 50 years ago was held at Silverstone the non-championship #F1 #InternationalTrophy. The race programme carried artwork depicting Scheckter (Tyrrell), Regazzoni (Ferrari) & Hunt (Hesketh). On the day Lauda (Ferrari) won from Fittipaldi (McLaren) & Andretti (Parnelli).

Dijon ’82 was Keke Rosberg’s first GP victory but it wasn’t his first #F1 victory, for he’d won the last ever non-championship F1 #InternationalTrophy, #OnThisDay in ’78, at a bleak Silverstone, in torrential rain, in a Theodore TR1 (pic).

#OnThisDay in ’59 Brabham (Cooper) won the non-championship #F1 #InternationalTrophy. Aston Martin made their F1 debut, & Salvadori (Aston DBR4; pic) drove fastest lap en route to 2nd. But his result flattered to deceive & Aston Martin (phase 1) were never as competitive again.

#OnThisDay in ’55 Prince Bira, who had won a number of big races in the ’30s & ’40s, started an #F1 race for the last time: the non-championship F1 #InternationalTrophy at Silverstone. Peter Collins won it, Roy Salvadori was 2nd, & Bira (pic) was 3rd, all of them in Maseratis.
