Bush literally gave an "Islam is Peace" speech a week after the attacks, saying that the terrorists are not the face Islam and imploring everyone to be kind to their Muslim neighbors and avoid Islamiphobia and panic. I'm not making this up, I swear.
this is a lie. I'm not gonna provoke this person and their followers, but it absolutely did happen, including at the same time as pushback against Islamophobia, some of said pushback coming from very high up. Both things happened but the shared bond was real and existed & it's wrong to deny

Will never understand how people don't still hate GW's guts. His war on terror rhetoric skyrocketed islamiphobia in this damn country, put us in a war that has lasted most of my lifetime and has continued to be used as the justification for bombing or supporting bombing of the middle east.

That counter argument only works if I was trying to justify a rise in anti-semitism, and not pointing out cause & effect. Even the FBI says the rise in anti-semitism and islamiphobia can be traced directly to Isntreal and Gaza.

It's also strategic. These leaders also will use "Women's rights" when convenient(especially with Islamiphobia) or talk about immigrants taking jobs/immigrants being paid less as justification to forcing them out of the country but they will never talk about holding companies to account to PAY UP!

It's the blatantly darkening/thickening the beard for me. You have to be deeply islamiphobic to make a conscious decision to play up that specific racist trope that you KNOW plays into others islamiphobia, consciously or otherwise. Especially in NYC after 911 that's diabolical right winger shit.
