The brochure quite rightly put the Mini's legendary designer, Sir Alec Issigonis, at centre-stage, and also namechecked some famous owners, including Enzo Ferrari, pointing out he loved to drive his Cooper on Italian mountain roads.

The Wolseley followed the Issigonis formula of making every effort to maximise the huge interior space. An unusual feature was the control for the 18/85's optional automatic transmission, which had a small lever built into the walnut dashboard to the right of the driver.

The front-wheel-drive 1800 (also sold in Morris and Wolseley versions) was true to the Issigonis philosophy of maximising space, with a large boot complementing the vast cabin. A faster 95bhp twin-carburettor 1800S was also available in the improved mk2 model.
