#Jólabókaflód
In Iceland, on Christmas Eve, people give each other books so they can spend the evening drinking cocoa & reading. It’s called, Jolabokaflod, the Christmas book flood. I’ve never been more in love with Iceland than I am right now ♥️♥️

Happy Jolabokaflod to all who celebrate.

It is traditional in Iceland to give the gift of a book to be opened on Christmas Eve. Books are unwrapped and then read together. It is called Jolabokaflod (Christmas book flood). 📖 🎄

Really looking forward to tonight. We follow the Icelandic tradition of Jólabókaflóð, literally 'Christmas book flood'. Rather than watching regrettable repeats on TV, you give each other a book and then settle down with a nice hot chocolate to read them. It's fab! 📚

We have officially entered the Christmas Book Flood season here in Iceland (aka Jólabókaflóð) which means that every day for the next 4-5 weeks there is a book launch party somewhere that you can go to and get free booze!

And a happy Jólabókaflóð to all those that celebrate.

What is Jolabokaflod?

Jolabokaflod involves the exchange of books as gifts on Christmas Eve. The Jolabokaflod tradition is followed by an evening of reading and enjoying festive treats such as hot chocolate and traditional Icelandic chocolate

Everyone loves the Icelandic Christmas Eve tradition of giving books as gifts, known as Jolabokaflod, and spending the night reading. Many have adopted it all over the world.

But instead of celebrating Jolabokaflod once-a-year, what if we celebrated Jolabokaflod, like, every Sunday night?

It's that time of year again, Jólabókaflóð

What book/chocolate combos would you recommend?

I'm probably going to end up with some Zotter chocolate and horror for Christmas Eve but not made my mind up on which of either yet

Started doing this with my niece and nephew two years ago. Determined to make them love reading as much as I do!

We are starting a new Christmas Eve tradition, we had hot chocolate and read new books (or at least unread previously).

I chose The Last American Road Trip by @sarahkendzior.bsky.social , whose writing is amazing.

Jólabókaflóð the Icelandic Tradition of giving books and reading them Xmas Eve in Iceland...Kinda same thing as you have to get clothing or socks because of the Xmas Cat.

Two things you get every year in Iceland books and socks. Icelandic read ALOT and the Yule Cat eats you without clothing....

Loki started Jólabókaflóð because he thought it was funny to make people give Thor piles and piles of books instead of presents he actually wants (hammers). #NorseMyths #MythAsAnIJustMadeItUp

My favorite Jolabokaflod gift:

A near-complete run of 1983-84 Rolling Stone. So many wonders await.
