I needed more storage but SSD’s and normal Hard Drives are expensive.
It’s £190 for a 4TB IronWolf HDD
It’s £300-500 for a 4TB SSD!
So instead I spent £550 on used 60TB JBOD Server instead.
That’s £9.16 per TERABYTE.

(qualified success! my mirrored RAID array is now a JBOD, I need to install a lot of random crud, and firefox sync failed to sync, so my bookmarks are history)

This was a real way of speeding up load times on DISC based games, because the laser had to physically move to read. That said, you duplicated COMMON assets, not all assets.
Theoretically, 10x dupes could only speed up loads on a JBOD setup *IF* the data ended up on both sides of the JBOD line.

Not me still crashing out about how Helldivers 2 duplicated the entire ~14G asset library TEN TIMES on hard drives because they thought (hilariously, incorrectly) that it would [waving hands] SOMEHOW speed up load times, and then apparently never tested their 140+G of bloat theory 🤦

A JBOD filled with 40+ hard drives is going to be less than 1000watts. Meanwhile, 2 graphics cards performing AI workloads can use that much power non-stop.
