I've mentioned being former JROTC before. And that was pretty much my aspirations in youth because I was never told that there was any path to success outside of military that would guarantee housing healthcare (still seems true even though poverty and class differences in enlisted just seems worse)

maybe it comes from being in a military family or doing military jrotc and getting a taste of that life but few things crack me up like celebrities who think they can be soldiers

District explores Air Force JROTC unit after student survey shows interest
Administrator Mr. King presented a proposal to establish an Air Force JROTC (JRTC) unit, citing space constraints, a survey showing 579 respondents with 112 very interested and a model that pairs one district-paid instructor with one cadet-command-funded instructor; board members asked about scheduling, enrollment and credential alignment.

We went on early, before color guard & marching band. I enjoyed it & stayed on the next 3 years.

I stayed in JROTC 3 years, too, or the Pickle Patrol, as they called us. Our uniforms were green & we had to wear them 1 day/week.

It was more physical activity, anyway.

I was in JROTC in high school and looking back I’m like “that was kinda cringe” and I’m not even sure current me would even do it.
And wouldn’t mechslpo high school AU be a military school? Which hilariously would make the Handlers the “annoying ROTC kids”

...oh god would Knight Girl also land me in JROTC with you..?

Aren't these the same guys who whine about "respecting the flag" any time they see some JROTC kid folding it slightly incorrectly? But it's totally fine to use it to filter your beer farts and let it absorb what I can only assume is weeks of unwashed armpit stew?

my first boyfriend in highschool was a trans masc JROTC guy

Oh. Oh man. I’m so sorry.

My JROTC unit was so incestuous that it became a problem finding people who HADN’T done the deed together to lead platoons.

How we got caught with beer is funnier.

We threw a BIG party while my parents were out of town. 20 kids. Drank a few cases. But we were all JROTC nerds so everything got cleaned before mom and dad got home. We were in the clear.

Until dad took the trash out barefoot…

That’s why they push teens & young 39-somethings with the ROTC & JROTC crap. Indoctrination in ‘be all you can effing be’ before their cerebral cortexes are fully developed, (it’s known that brain is not fully mature til late 20s. Fewer people over 30 are dupable w/“glorious war” symbolism.

perhaps unsurprisingly i had the high scores for both kneeling and prone shooting on my jrotc marksmanship team in high school and held those records for 3 years minimum

I have a very similar jacket. Sleeveless and puffy. The kind these northerners wear. I've never worn it. I'm going to rock it this winter.
There was a girl in high school '98 with this dyed hair color. In her JROTC uniform she wore her marlboro reds in the hem of her stocking. I wanted to be her.

He got dropped from JROTC b/c grades. He wouldn't have been dropped from CC b/c they check quarterly, but 1st Sgt checked before each event, and he had an F in English.

To him, he "lost his outlet" and that's why his grades tanked.

But he lost his outlet because they were already tanked.

I learned that during my JROTC class and again during my delayed enlightenment.

What's sad was the JROTC kid who killed himself after ICE put an ankle monitor on him. He was a child, brainwashed into loving the US security apparatus and devastated to see it turned on him. He never had a chance to choose to stay or leave. This, in contrast, is cause for celebration

Could've had a whole other life that started at West Point...straight outta JROTC.

But here I picked "reconnecting" to my Nativeness, and the rest is history.
Another reason I've divested as much as I can. Cuz I want this interpersonal hierarchy to die.
Anybody who owns property benefits from the dynamic.

Two kids got the shit beat out of them by ICE on their way to enlist to the Marines today, barely a week after that Haitian JROTC kid killed himself after ICE put an ankle monitor on him... the propaganda apparatus in this country is so fucking evil
