The French are the best at superheroes. JUDEX delivers his menacing note to the villains via poodle. That's style!

Judex, caped vigilante with a very credible claim to cinema’s first superhero, battled gangsters and a corrupt banker in the 1916 French serial.

Judex (1916). My enjoyment of it switched from historical curiosity to falling completely in love with it at the chapter which revealed Judex has approximately 600 dogs that can do everything from ring doorbells to deliver messages in the course of helping rescue ladies in distress.

Every frame of Judex makes it look like the coolest movie ever, and then you watch it and, no, it's not.

✍️ Writers of Bsky: Instead of “what IP do you want to write for” I have a better question — What NICHE IP do you want to write for? The IP that you’re sure no one cares about but you.
I have a list:
- Scarecrow and Mrs King
- The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh
- Doyle’s The Lost World
- JAG (not NCIS)

And if you're thinking "Ah, proto-Batman!" you're not entirely wrong but Judex remains aggressively French, delivering his threatening notes to the villains via trained poodle. Oui!

No joke, the fantastic serial Judex (1916) is very much worth your time and very close to this vibe.
I'm just going to say it: Wes Anderson Batman. I want to see what would happen.
