Jackson County administrator Andrew Long told supervisors a July 1 change in bond determinations has increased the number of inmates counties must hold; the county is housing people from Johnson and Scott counties, with an estimated one- to three-month stay for many and June revenue from Scott County reported at $33,440.

The Board approved a staffing restructure on Nov. 25, adding four full‑time correctional officers, eliminating two part‑time roles and reducing PRN positions. It also eliminated the shift‑lead stipend and established a sergeant rank at a proposed $27 per hour after a promotional process to stabilize operations and reduce overtime.

The commission authorized up to $230,000 from county-held jail funds for windows, weapons upgrades, an inmate-tracking system, drones and camera upgrades after commissioners were told roughly $236,000 is available in the holding fund.
