#Jamdani
Today is the Bangla new year (Pohela Boishakh) and in Bangladesh women wear white sarees with red borders to celebrate. Anyway here I am in a Jamdani sharee which is a traditional Bangladeshi weave.

Two realities: we have the fetish among non-Jewish, pro-Israel centrist democrats to publicly lecture Mamdani about how to assuage the “fears” of Jewish New Yorkers. Meanwhile all my Jewish family and friends are skipping down the street in their “Jamdani” t-shirts (Jews for Mamdani.)

Anyhoo sweeties, I’m at an age where I wear slow fashion from the global south that knows textiles & cotton. This just arrived for my boxy shirt. I’ll get it tailored.
From the Bengal region & is called Jamdani. Weft technique used on diaphanous Muslin. The same Muslin that the Brits destroyed!!

Jamdani (not zamdani) sarees are quite beautiful and require incredible amounts of skill and hard work.

Saw this Indian bahenchod bitching about Miss Bangladesh, saying she should've worn a burka and not a sari. Stay the fuck out of Bengali business. Partition may have split Bengal into Hindu and Muslim, but we're all still Bengali. With our Jamdani saris, Rabindra-Nazrul geeti, and goat meat.

Yesterday at the University of Delaware Doctoral Hooding Ceremony I had the incredible honor of wearing sari with my students. Thank you to @nusrattm.bsky.social for bestowing me with such a beautiful gift. 💗

What happens when drying rivers change Ajrakh colours, no phuti karpas for Jamdani,no clay for Dhanak potters? Superb, well-written article combining data, reporting & analysis on impact of climate change on crafts by Avantika Bhuyan in Mint Lounge

That was my story, as well, unfortunately. I got very involved in looking at a Bengali Jamdani, and lost the time!
