Karl G. Jansky - The Father of Radio Astronomy! 📡
Oh, I'm a couple days late, but 8 July is the anniversary of Karl Jansky's important piece in Nature in 1933, where he concluded that a powerful radio source was coming from outside the Solar System at a fixed sky location.

This was the start of #RadioAstronomy 📡

Jansky is not really the unit I expected him to be.

Astronomers: SI units? Huh, never heard of em!

Can I interest you in a Jansky? Or perhaps a magnitude? What about a parsec?
In case you're not DEEP into science nerd lore, this is the SI wheel. A visual representation of the seven units that form the basis of our international system of units (known as the SI). MSL are the keepers of the SI here in #NZ (and I used to work at the UK equivalent lab!) 🧪⚛️
SI Units
The International System of Units, known as the SI, is the globally-agreed basis for expressing measurements at all levels of precision, and in all areas of science, technology, and human endeavour.

'This Is Techno' by Jansky

This I believe may be a part of a series inspired by ACTUAL Techno music (as made by its Detroit creators) , rather than the business techno types (as adopted by the many grifters who jumped on the bandwagon to ca$h in, no names need to be mentioned)

Jansky took observations in 1932 and presented his findings, making a big claim.

"There are radio waves that are coming from beyond the Solar System"

This was entirely new and the birth of #RadioAstronomy

His findings were published in Oct 1933.
