2. How the magic system actually works. That’s hush-hush. Not even the characters fully get it. #JanuaryWorldbuilders

Oh my god, I've created a HopePunk Warhammer universe.

The ISC (Incorporated Solarian Concordat, i.e. Humans/Quetzal Alliance) is led by the Solarian Directorate who defer to Imperator Mellea, a worldwide mycelial connected forest.

Humans are scientists, engineers, merchants and artists mainly.

Welcome to the second week of #JanuaryWorldbuilders! The theme of this one is SOCIETY. Again, relatively broad for now. We'll delve into more weeds later in the year. Today's Q: Talk about social classes. How are they handled? Do they have hierarchies? Nobles and commoners? Or is it classless?

"What are gender roles?" -faeries
Good day, #JanuaryWorldbuilders. This week I'm asking q's about the fictional societies in our fantasy/sci-fi worlds. If you write about many societies, pick one you think has an interesting answer, or the MC's society. How are gender roles handled in this world?

4. The inequality between the City in the Sky and the City on the Ground is pretty terrifying, as is the prevailing attitude towards the citizens of the lower city. #JanuaryWorldbuilders

Problems

After the events of On the Shore of the Sea, the Fairies close their borders. This creates economic and social chaos. Into which Rose walks almost blindly.

3. The City in the Sky is a wonder of the contemporary world, a testament to its citizens’ ingenuity, wealth and power. With its soaring waterfalls, expansive hanging gardens, and neomedieval architecture, it's considered the most breathtaking city ever built. #JanuaryWorldbuilders

Can’t promise I’ll stay on the bandwagon but let’s try 😂

Tynan's weapon is themself. Part of the "transform into anything" skill they have also includes turning their arms into scythes or maces or whatever they want.
Alright, time to get into some of those weeds I promised! The theme of this week and next will be fighting-centric. Weapons and armor this week. Militaries next week. Today's #JanuaryWorldbuilders Q: What weapon(s) are used by your MC (or another important character?)
January 15, 2026 at 11:51 AM
#JanuaryWorldbuilders, good morning! In the same vein as yesterday's question, what's something terrifying or scary in your world? Do you have any haunted places? Desolate, lonely places? Any site where something dreadful happened?

Worldbuilding that helps my characters.

Rose would be completely lost without the network of safe places and hidden sanctuarys through the Human Realm set up by the Thorn Brothers and Thorn Maidens.

5. The worldbuilding affects my MC in every way. Altaluna is caught between The City in the Sky and the City on the Ground. She was a child in one; she grew up in the other. She represents both and neither. Her story is a balancing act that showcases both cities and cultures. #JanuaryWorldbuilders

Good morning #JanuaryWorldbuilders! A very broad question that I have no doubt is difficult to answer: What was YOUR beginning of worldbuilding? What was your inspiration? Your initial spark? Another work of fiction? Boredom? A powerful imagination seeking an outlet?

Magic weapons

From a certain point of view, the Fairy Silksteel weapons are magical because of their durability and sharpness.
One magical sword is in Queen of Thorns. Forged by the Blood Cult it focuses the blood to the weilder, enhancing their magic.

Clothes

Mathias and Chana both wear the brown and green of the Forest, but adapted to blend in with the rest of people of the Human Realm. Cheap cloth on the outside and Fairysilk on the inside.

Long-range weapons

To fight the flying Fairies, Humans use catapults and ballistae. Using anything from stone, metal, glass, or fire to create low tech anti-aircraft to repel flying enemies.

Melee weapons

Just the normal ones. Swords, bows, crossbows, daggers, long knives. Some of the Fairy Flyers use flails, both as a missile weapon and melee.
