I am shocked they chose #LovelyRunner & #TraumaCode ahead of #Jeongnyeon

I’ve seen all 3: loved #TraumaCode as a piece of well-made & acted fun, respected #LovelyRunner as a popular romance/serial killer drama with youthful faces & a lovely OST. But neither are at the artistic level of #Jeongnyeon

I hope that anyone involved with #Jeongnyeon & Kim Tae-ri gets recognition, & it’s an artistic crime that it’s not in the ‘best drama’ category (I don’t believe #LovelyRunner or #TraumaCode should be in the ‘best drama’ category, despite loving the latter drama as superb entertainment).

I agree it’s good when overlooked genres are awarded nominations. It’s then a matter of collegiate taste which particular representatives of those genres get picked

I will keep banging the drum for #Jeongnyeon though 🙂, & much as I loved #TraumaCode, I don’t think it or #LovelyRunner are superior

Speaking personally for me it’s quite depressing that a drama like #Jeongnyeon has been overlooked in favour of #TraumaCode & #LovelyRunner. This is why I tend to dislike awards ceremonies in general, as they tend to set in stone canons of appreciation I often dissent from

& some kdramas off the top of my head (I’m leaving out a ton of classics here, but just to give a sense of my preferences):

There are kdramas I’ve really enjoyed watching this year - such as #TraumaCode #StudyGroup #LoveScout & #MyDearNemesis - & from last year I absolutely loved #Jeongnyeon

But, like you, my preferences tend to be historical, or wuxia & xianxia dramas, & China does these very well.

Yes, there seems to be some trade-off between popularity vs intrinsic excellence, which is too occult to fully comprehend!

Part of it is clearly subjective. I loved #TraumaCode as a really fun drama, so I can’t object too strongly to its presence in nominations. But it’s not better than #Jeongnyeon

I meant popular with international audiences. #LovelyRunner & #TraumaCode we’re big hits outside Korea, & dramas like #Jeongnyeon & #LadyOk probably didn’t receive as wide a viewership as these
