Jesus, refugee,
walk with us
that we may walk
with those whom
our society rejects;
for you, O Lord,
know what it is
to be rejected,
to be hated,
to be betrayed.

Jesus, refugee,
helper of the poor,
helper of the helpless,
of the hungry,
of the marginalised,
help us to be helpers like you:
help us to turn away from hatred,
from division
from fear.

Jesus, refugee,
illumine our lives
that we may be
beacons of hope
in a world of hopelessness;
lanterns of joy
in a world of sorrow,
that our lives might shine
with the light of your love.

Jesus, refugee,
clothe us with
your compassion,
that we may clothe
the naked
and the destitute
amongst us,
that we might never
turn a blind eye
to their suffering,
cock a deaf ear
to their cries,
or pass by
on the other side.

Jesus, refugee,
take refuge in our hearts,
in our minds,
in our lives,
that we might
always welcome
those seeking refuge
in our midst
and never turn away
the stranger from our gates.

Let it be so,
Jesus, Lord, refugee,
amen and amen and amen.

Jesus, refugee,
help us to see those in need,
those fleeing
from famine,
from floods,
from war,
from every disaster,
with your eyes
and your love:
help us,
O helper of the helpless,
to always respond with
your generosity,
your kindness,
your unending love.
