Voyager has its mid stretches but Scorpion, Living Witness, Faces, Bride of Chaotica, Jetrel, Year of Hell and some others are all A-tier Star Trek.

Very sad to hear the passing of James Sloyan. His guest roles as Admiral Jarok, Alexander Rozhenko, Dr. Mora Pol and Dr. Jetrel on TNG, DS9 and VOY respectively were all memorable and made each of the episodes he was in an excellent one.

Two years ago on TrekRanks 181, we did the "Top 5 Recurring Actors" in #StarTrek, and needless to say James Sloyan featured prominently in that episode as the only unanimous choice by all of our panelists

He elevated every character he played. A true legend.🖖

For episodes that show you the broad overview of the themes and ideas of Star Trek, I like “Balance of Terror” and “The City on the Edge of Forever” from TOS, “Who Watches the Watchers” and “Darmok” from TNG, “Duet” and “Necessary Evil” from DS9, “Jetrel” and “Lifesigns” from VOY, and

Shit, i knew him as Dr. Mora, the Romulan defector, and Jetrel. I didn't realize Sloyan was also Quinn/Q. Dang man.

Oh, the news only just broke but James Sloyan died first, on the 22nd of July.

He had so many great guest roles… Admiral Jarok, alternate timeline Alexander, Dr Mora Pol, and Ma'bor Jetrel.

He was fantastic.

We are sad to hear that actor James Sloyan has died. He played 4 different characters on Star Trek: Admiral Alidar Jarok on Next Gen, Mora Pol on DS9, K'mtar/Alexander Rozhenko on Next Gen, and Ma'Bor Jetrel on Voyager.

Our deepest condolences to his family and friends.

Just heard of the passing of James Sloyan. He played so many memorable roles in 90s Trek, including Jarok (TNG's The Defector), Dr. Mora Pol (Odo's "dad"), future Alexander Rozhenko, and Jetrel (from Voyager). Such a powerful performer. He will be missed, but he has left a lasting legacy. 🖖

along with Mora Pel on DS9, James Sloyan also played K’mtar (who was really Alexander Rozhenko from the future) and Alidar Jarok on TNG, and Haakonian scientist, Dr. Ma'Bor Jetrel on Voyager

One of Star Trek's best-ever guest actors, James Sloyan, passed away over the summer at the age of 85. Whether you remember him as Admiral Jarok, time-traveling Alexander Rozhenko, Dr. Mora, or Ma'Bor Jetrel, his performances in Trek were always phenomenal.

other eps we've seen (Voyager's Jetrel, TOS' Ultimate Computer). The actor they got to play Erickson (Bill Cobbs) was fine. Just felt like it was missing something I couldn't put my finger on. Some ongoing stuff with T'Pol relative to all the "stuff" she's been through was nice to see. Just "ok".

31 - JETREL (James Sloyan)

“When I saw that blinding light, brighter than a thousand suns, I knew at that moment exactly what I had become”

The ever reliable James Sloyan brings depth to the Haakonian with an Oppenheimer complex

Returning to the Delta Quadrant was unexpectedly rough. Season 1 of Star Trek: Voyager (VOY) isn't the lowest-rated of this rewatch, but it was the most disappointing.

Missed potential, questionable decisions, and too much body horror. Also: 5 holodeck episodes but no power to replicate coffee???

HAAKONIANS - Jetrel

“When I saw that blinding light, brighter than a thousand suns, I knew at that moment exactly what I had become”

The mortal enemies of the Talaxians. Jetrel was behind the destruction of Rinax which wiped out Neelix’s entire family

Agreed. His relationship with Kes was creepy but other than that he was a good character. Beside Riddles Mortal Coil and Jetrel come to mind as great episodes.

Voyager Season 1!

Honestly, coming off the high that was DS9, a Season 1 of Berman-era Trek was gonna disappoint. Still, probably mostly uphill from here. Faces and Jetrel were probably the best non-Janeway episodes, but even Jetrel kinda feels like a less compelling version of Duet.
