I feel like the mentality of the quoted post is fried. It's the same mentality as religious extremism, waiting for the apocalypse to come so that heaven can be reached. It's been like a decade of people like OP saying things are gonna get worse before they get better.

They say they won't give in to doomerism, but they're already convinced the best possible outcome is apocalyptic. But the apocalypse they're speaking of is a gradual decline that is already underway and it is one we can, at any point, start fighting.

The nazis weren't cartoon villains from another planet, they were regular fucking people who bought into the simplistic worldview of idol worship, racial science, jingoism, etc.

My grandfather was sent out into the West front as a child. He spent the rest of his life fighting nazism, he saw what it brought upon the world and he understood that never again meant NEVER AGAIN. You do not compromise, you don't wait for it to get worse, you don't cede ground to this ideology.

This wasn't just in reaction to the far right turn of the late 2010's, he was already dead by then. Nor was it in reaction to the neonazi movement of the 90's. As soon as the war ended and the iron curtain was raised, he saw exactly where it could go and he opposed it through cultural exchange.

When the wall fell, neonazism soon popped up. He had worked through enough of his trauma from the war to start talking about it, so he offered lectures to middle-schools. He shared his experience with indoctrination and the war.

Once Jorin and Erik were established, I de-aged their features to create Todd, using ACR and Liquify to tweak his features and demeanour as he grows from a curious 13 to a dad at 15 while maintaining a strong family resemblance to his brothers.

These were refined in Photoshop using Liquify and Camera Raw to fine-tune facial structure, tone and texture, and Clone Stamp and Healing tools to correct artefacts and inconsistencies. From these, base reference images were established and developed into sets covering different ages, expressions, hairstyles and details such as facial-hair development. The final images were then composited and finished by hand. The example below shows the reference development for the identical twins and their younger brother.”

Below the text, a rough blue ballpoint sketch on lined notebook paper shows a young bearded man with a topknot. A yellow arrow points from this to a polished black-and-white line-and-graphite portrait of the same character, with carefully defined facial structure, freckles, hair and beard.

Then comes 1999: Summer of Origins.

Two couples, two cars, two months. The twins, their partners and eventually Todd head into Europe for a messy, formative summer of travel, family history, attraction, freedom and figuring out who they are.

The whole scene is treated in the same bold yellow palette as the cover, reinforcing the book’s visual identity.
