my personal answer to "how are you" nowadays is so vibe-killing it's best saved for therapist type sessions or for my journalspeak-and-burned page

This is a technique I learned recently for releasing trauma stored in the mind and body that contributes to poor mental health and even physical symptoms.

It’s called the journalspeak method, and it’s part of what has been helping my chronic health stuff and I think my mental health too.

I especially like to recommend the practice that its originator, a therapist , calls JournalSpeak, but which I tend to call 'brain cleaning.'

I mention this all often, for example most recently here, in this WHT called 'Advice for Shitty AF Times': whats-helping-today.beehiiv.com/p/reintroduc...

What's Helping Today: Having hiked a mountain yesterday. (Have of late been slowly working on the 3500ers, which catskills folks will understand. i've now got 4/33 LOL.) Also for dinner made a very good burger. Journalspeak and 1302 consecutive days of meditation. Covering some songs just now.

Also helping today ... being in community with other trans folks, especially trans men. Leaning even harder into my established self-care-y routines (when I notice I'm totally overloaded and acting a way because of it ... Like the 1500 days of meditation, like journalspeak ... and everything else).

What's also helped when I'm having thoughts that feel terrifying even to me is letting them out—somewhere safe.

JournalSpeak to me is the SAFEST place these days to write down thoughts that feel impossible/terrifying...the anger that feels too big, the crushing sorrow, the debilitating fear, etc.

JournalSpeak is a practice developed by therapist Nicole Sachs, it involves 20 minutes of totally unfiltered writing (about whatever you're avoiding most inside) that you then destroy, then 10 mins of (lovingkindness) meditation. Explainer: whatshelpingtoday.substack.com/p/how-to-cle...

Nicole Sachs has finally written a book that explains all the mind-body stuff behind JournalSpeak (derived from Dr. John Sarno, her late physician/mentor) to those not already familiar. It published this week: bookshop.org/p/books/mind...

re: crying itself btw, if anyone wants to 'get better at' crying (which I sure get), i do recommend JournalSpeak, the practice I'm often mentioning and going on about ... it's a tool really helps me surface whatever is real for me, despite whatever else ...
actually we've been practicing just crying instead of changing grief into depression or anger fora few years now. I wish crying was easier for everyone.

I don't tell the worst stuff except to like, my journalspeak page (which I immediately burn) and my entrusted professionals who've helped guide my healing ... maybe my closest friends or whoever like that, but rarely ... do even such people ... hear the worst. when you've got a life like mine.

Just to add to the above, it's explained in the linked newsletter but Nicole Sachs adapted JournalSpeak from her late mentor and former physician Dr. John Sarno. I often recommend Nicole's podcast as a starting place to those new to this (who are curious) podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/t...

to re-share my own soul-care regimen, i tend to work daily off of a 5-part list in my mind, consisting of:
- journalspeak
- meditation
- bathing/showering
- walk
- yoga
- kindness to myself if i fail at getting to any/all this, and generally (except meditation, which I REALLY try to do daily)

Alright WHAT'S HELPING TODAY: Um... JournalSpeak and 1240 days of meditation. A bath. Determining the minimum I can get away with doing today and doing that.
March 17, 2025 at 6:49 PM
Ik heb ooit al eens eerder een soortgelijk deel gedaan wat lijkt op dit Journalspeak, van je afschrijven, verleden heden etc betrekken, nav boek wat ik las. Nu 28 dagen challenge.

I haven't done a committed 28 days of JournalSpeak for ... a few years now. And it felt like time to do another like reset type practice ...
I'm writing a WHT this weekend more about this but I've done a few other things to like SHIFT MY FUCKING VIBES ... including a 28-day JournalSpeak refresher ...

What's Helping Today ... Meditation. JournalSpeak (speaking of Nicole Sachs). Asking for help. Trying to extend myself grace, which is something others keep telling me to do (and is hard!!!).

What's Helping Today: (as I write about therein) JournalSpeak and 1215 consecutive days of meditation. Here was today's, with Sarah Blondin, who's one of my favs: insig.ht/g4gtyj7G8Qb

Nicole Sachs is the therapist who created JournalSpeak, adapted from the work of her late mentor Dr. John Sarno (as I'm often mentioning) and she has a new book out. Anyway, she often says, when our pain's above a 6, all we can do is self-soothe.

Interesting that the article highlights journaling as a way to ease chronic pain. Makes you wonder if the act of writing is itself a superpower. https://edition.cnn.com/2025/04/11/health/video/chronic-pain-journalspeak-nicole-sachs-wellness-digvid #WritingCommunity #ChronicPain #MentalHealth

i agree; it's understandable but frustrating this technology has become what it has. i found a minorly useful application for people who have to write about studies: asking it to translate the abstract into layman's terms saves a lot of time trying to translate journalspeak by hand
