Building it with itself. Week 1 starts now.

This is what "Tillage builds Tillage" actually means.

Not a demo. Not a proof of concept.

The schema that the next tiller runs against was shaped by the last one.

One tiller to route them all. Built the same way as every other tiller — validate, heartbeat, call, callback.

The pipeline eating its own patterns. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

Everyone's vibe coding. I can't do it. I've been a software engineer for 19 years, and "ship it and pray" is not a workflow. So I'm building Tillage: a pipeline that codes, reviews, adjudicates, reflects, and only lets work through when it's actually right. Day 1.

SigNoz v0.120.0. One container. ClickHouse backend. Traces visible the same day it was deployed.

No agents sending data to someone else's cloud.

Self-hosted all the way down. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

The pipeline gets better every run.

Every tiller reflects after completing a task. Rework rate is tracked. Context injection improves over time.

Day 1 it's cautious. Month 3 it's earning trust.

Still building. Building it with itself.

This is what V1 is supposed to prove: Tillage can build itself.

The feature that ships features — built through its own pipeline.

One till at a time, until the tool is done. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

Names matter. Not for aesthetics — because you read them a hundred times a day.

When the code says what you mean, the reading gets cleaner. The decisions get sharper.

When the score crosses your threshold — you auto-approve.

Not on day one. After it's proved it.

Trust is a score. Not a setting.

The pipeline is building its own interface.

That was always the point of V1 — prove the chain works by running Tillage through itself.

It's working. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

Tillage embeds everything into pgvector. At dispatch time, it retrieves the top chunks semantically similar to the task.

The tiller arrives informed — not overwhelmed.

That's the decomposition chain doing its job.

Hand an AI "build the orchestrator" → noise.

Hand it one till → working state machine.

Now it’s in ready_for_operator_review.

The pipeline stops here. Not because it failed — because a human has to say yes.

That’s the design. That’s the whole point. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

Also today: dropped rework_count from the schema entirely.

Turned out real pipeline runs don't need it the way we thought.

The system telling you what it actually needs. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

Fixed: acceptance criteria only. No spec. No snippets. Inverted prompt order — feedback first, then constraints. Added --max-turns to stop it rewriting everything from scratch.

Less context, better repairs. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

Fix: a dispatch outbox table. State transition and outbox write happen in the same transaction.

A separate process drains it. The dispatch only happens if the state commit landed. Crash-safe. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

"Shipped" and "working" are not the same thing.

The router runs now. Contracts bumped twice. 709 tests pass.

That gap between green tests and live behavior? That's just the cost. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic
April 29, 2026 at 9:04 AM
That means a tiller now arrives at a real Gitea branch with its own scoped token — not a simulation.

And when the run closes: token revoked, branch tracked, credentials wiped.

Fully autonomous AI coding sounds good until it confidently implements the wrong thing for 3 hours.

Human gates aren't a limitation.

They're the product.

You set the policy. Tillage enforces it.

Every handler now writes a callback_rejected audit log entry before moving on.

Small change. But now when something goes wrong, there's a record of it.

You can't fix what you can't see. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

The decomposition is the work. Execution is almost a formality.

Code review has a defined output: findings, severity, gate pass/fail.

If that contract is stable, the model is a plug.

Tillers aren't tied to one AI provider. They're tied to a task schema.

That's the abstraction worth keeping. #JustTillIt #indiedev

Every tiller shares the same contract: validate the payload, send a heartbeat, do the work, post the callback.

The scaffold is the base. The specialisation is the logic on top.

That's how forking a new tiller takes hours, not weeks. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic

10 PRs yesterday. Didn't stop.

PR #12 merged today. ESLint clean across the whole codebase — the gate-tiller caught everything.

12 tills. 12 PRs. The GUI is being built. #JustTillIt #buildinpublic
