Thankful for this @akurjata.ca story. This is all over local Facebook but without much media up north, there hadn't been much actual explanation of what was going on.

An Indigenous community did that recently: "They're not allowed to give them food, not allowed to take care of them or house them. They're expected to pass through the territory and continue on," he said. "We're upholding our old laws."

Great story here by @akurjata.ca.
I support #FirstNation's rights to follow and up-hold traditional laws.
#DrugDealing is big business and, too often, #RCMP look the other way. There have been too many indigenous deaths.

shunning is part of a practice that dates back to pre-colonial times, when members who broke rules would be exiled and could not be helped by others

I stand with Haida Gwaii.

Returning to the old laws is the way. Drugs and alcohol are killing our people, and it can't continue to go on. The people need healing, and masking the pain with drugs isn't Creators way.

In May, 2025, the Haida Nation demolished the home of family members of Tyson Young, evicted, and forcibly drove-out them out. They were met with protesters along the highway for as much as 800 km away after leaving Skidegate and heading east to Prince George and beyond!

Geez. Haida Gwaii doesn't fool around. Heard this being discussed on the Vancouver CBC Radio afternoon show. There was an awful situation last week with someone killed with a vehicle. (Not linked with the festival on the weekend ... this was in Skidegate.)
