Back to the Georg Stage this afternoon where I chatted with various trainees, one of whom told me that part of the training was to 'learn the ropes' (whence the expression), i.e. the specific function of the approx 200 ropes, sheets, halyards, shrouds and hawsers that control the ship (see #Kõismäe)
