Pakistan military says 19 militants killed in Balochistan operations
Pakistani security forces killed 19 militants in counterterrorism operations in Balochistan, the military said Wednesday. Thirteen died in a clearance operation in Quetta's Shaban area, while six more were killed in separate raids in Kech and Quetta West. An army soldier was also killed in the exchanges. #### How many militants were killed in Balochistan? Security forces killed 19 militants in Balochistan across three operations this week. Thirteen died during a clearance operation in Quetta's Shaban area that began Sept. 21, while six more were killed in intelligence-based operations in Kech and Quetta West on Sept. 22 and 23, the military said. #### What happened in the Quetta clearance operation? The Inter-Services Public Relations, the military's media wing, said the 13 militants were killed in the Shaban area of Quetta, where security forces had been conducting a clearance operation since Sept. 21 after intelligence agencies reported multiple militant hideouts. The military described the groups as Indian-sponsored Fitna Al Khawarij and Fitna Al Hindustan, and said they posed a threat to the local population. Security forces engaged the militants and cleared multiple hideouts during the operation. Following intense exchanges of fire, 13 terrorists were killed, the ISPR said, adding that weapons, ammunition and explosives were recovered from the cleared hideouts. The clearance operation will continue until the threat in the area is completely neutralized, according to the statement. #### What happened in Kech and Quetta West? In separate intelligence-based operations conducted Sept. 22 and 23 in Kech and Quetta West districts, security forces killed six more militants following intense exchanges of fire, the military said. Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from those sites. An army officer was killed during one of the exchanges. Subedar Muhammad Jamil, 39, a resident of Taunsa Sharif in Dera Ghazi Khan, embraced martyrdom in the line of duty, the ISPR said. #### What is the wider campaign behind these operations? The military said the operations were part of an ongoing counterterrorism campaign under Azm-e-Istehkam, a strategy approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan. Security forces and law enforcement agencies remain committed to eliminating the menace of foreign-sponsored and supported terrorism from the country, the ISPR said. The military's account could not be independently verified.

Six abducted laborers found shot dead in Pakistan's Balochistan
The bodies of six laborers abducted earlier this week in Pakistan's southwestern Balochistan province were found with gunshot wounds on Thursday, officials said. Armed men had intercepted their vehicle and kidnapped seven workers in Kech district days earlier. #### What happened to the abducted laborers in Balochistan? Unidentified gunmen blocked the Turbat-Mand Road in the Kalatak area of Kech district on Tuesday and forced seven workers from their vehicle. One laborer was killed shortly afterward, with his body dumped along a highway the same day. The bodies of the remaining six workers were later recovered from the Nasirabad area of Turbat, indicating they had also been executed by their captors. Officials said four victims were from Pakistan's eastern Punjab province and two were from the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The laborers had been employed on a development project in Kech district. Their bodies were transferred to the district headquarters hospital in Turbat for autopsies. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the killings. #### Who is being blamed for the Balochistan killings? Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the attack, blaming what he described as "Fitna al-Hindustan" militants, a term Pakistani authorities use for groups they say are backed by India to carry out attacks inside the country. > وفاقی وزیرداخلہ محسن نقوی کی بلوچستان کے علاقے کیچ میں فتنہ الہندوستان کے دہشتگردوں کی جانب سے 6 مزدوروں کو شہید کرنے کے واقعہ کی پرزور مذمت > وزیرداخلہ کا غمزدہ خاندانوں سے دلی ہمدردی اور تعزیت کا اظہار > — Ministry of Interior GoP (@MOIofficialGoP) July 30, 2026 Naqvi extended condolences to the victims' families and described the killings as an act of extreme brutality. He said the attack was aimed at undermining development efforts and employment opportunities in Balochistan, adding that those responsible should face the full force of the law. #### Why does Balochistan see recurring militant violence? Balochistan, Pakistan's largest but least populated province, has long grappled with militant violence targeting security forces, infrastructure and workers. The province has faced repeated attacks on laborers and development projects in recent years. Pakistan's security situation, after showing signs of improvement earlier this year, deteriorated in May with a rise in militant attacks concentrated in Balochistan and neighboring Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Bullet-riddled bodies of 6 kidnapped labourers found in Balochistan's Turbat
QUETTA: The bodies of six of seven labourers who were kidnapped earlier this week in the Turbat city of Balochistan’s Kech district were found with bullet wounds on Thursday, an official told _Dawn._ On Tuesday, unidentified armed men had blocked Turbat-Mand Road in the Kalatak area of Kech district and taken away the seven labourers, who were travelling in a vehicle. The kidnappers had killed one of the labourers the same day and dumped his body on a highway. On Thursday, the bodies of the remaining six labourers were also found, Balochistan Home Department spokesperson Babar Yousafzai told _Dawn_. He said the kidnappers had taken the labourers to an undisclosed location, where one of them was killed shortly after the abduction and his body was dumped on the highway. They later also killed the six remaining labourers, whose bodies were found in Turbat’s Nasirabad area, he added. Yousafzai said the bodies bore torture marks and bullet wounds, and it seemed that the labourers had been shot at close range. According to him, four of the deceased were from Punjab and two from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They were working on a development project in Kech district, and their bodies were taken to the district headquarters hospital in Turbat for autopsy, he said. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the killing of the six labourers “by _Fitna al-Hindustan_ terrorists” — a term the state uses to refer to groups it accuses of being sponsored by India to execute terrorist attacks on Pakistani soil. Expressing his condolences to the bereaved families, the minister said the terrorists “demonstrated the worst brutality” by murdering the labourers. He also termed the incident an “attack on Balochistan’s progress and employment for the public”. Naqvi asserted that the “beasts who brutally murdered six non-local labourers deserved no leniency”. > Balochistan has been facing security challenges, and a monthly security assessment released in early June by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) said that after two consecutive months of improvement, Pakistan’s security situation deteriorated sharply in May, driven primarily by escalating terrorist violence in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The report said Balochistan emerged as the most affected province during the month. The province recorded 71 terrorist attacks, compared with 34 in April, representing a 109pc increase. The deteriorating security situation was further reflected in a surge in kidnappings, it said. Of the 54 abductions reported nationwide during May, 52 occurred in Balochistan alone, highlighting the growing operational reach and confidence of terrorist groups in the province, it said. Four employees of a private construction company were also kidnapped from the province’s Khuzdar district the same day when the seven labourers were kidnapped. The officials included a project manager, a surveyor and a technical lab assistant, who were working on a flood protection project in the Karkh area of Khuzdar. Last week, three excise officials were abducted at gunpoint following an attack on their department’s checkpost on the Dalbandin–Taftan Highway in Balochistan’s Chagai district. According to sources, around 30 armed men had surrounded the checkpost that was set up temporarily for routine checking, held the officials on duty at gunpoint and later abducted them. The sources added that the attackers also took away two official vehicles and weapons.
