I watch a lot of kdramas and a lot of kfilms. Alisa is spot on here. 🎯
It's absolutely relevant, the films are more often aimed at men and have different themes. But it's also part of a global trend away from seeing films in theaters

Haven't seen them all, but I'll see Hope next month on the big screen here. They're not all SciFi, but hey.. these films deserve all the flowers. Genre bending Kfilms are hard to peg and that's what makes them great.

Korean content on Netflix accounts for 8% of all global streams (second only to the US) 🤯 What's more, Kdramas and Kfilms represent 17% of Netflix’s top 500 non-U.S. titles, with “Squid Game: Season 2″ at #1. Hallyu is still a force to be reckoned with even with the industry's financial problems.

Stand Still

when faced with an urge to flee
stand still

when locked in place by fear
move forward

when nothing surrounds you but the vast, empty darkness;

reach out your hand into the nothingness

suddenly, blindingly,
a light will appear

and, simple as that
love will find you

Great read about Kdramas and Kfilms.
About a 'History of Pain, and a Culture of Catharsis'. With films and dramas addressing 'Freedom. Dignity. Betrayal. Hope. Survival'.

Why do #Kdramas and #Koreanfilms make us cry so hard? 🎬😭

It’s not just sentimentality.

As a media scholar, I’m interested in how #KoreanStorytelling turns historical #trauma into emotional structure, and why that structure travels so powerfully across cultures.

I’ve been thinking about what Tina said. I know this conversation started about idol dramas from China. But restrictive beauty standards are not limited to China. I love kdramas & kfilms. I can’t think of ANY lead actor — man or woman — in a ROMANCE who is not conventionally beautiful.
But I'm asking myself if can't remember a "non-idol" drama with less high beauty standards? I really would appreciate an example in this regard...
And I'd say that's not different for actor choices in most western movies/dramas. What is key element: acting skills or beauty standards? How many female

Still have >10 kfilms on my hard disk, all worth watching. Where do I find the time ;^)

Today on the menu the NF film Pavane *** by Lee Jong-pil (2026). Great cinematography, editing & great actors. The story could have used a bit more intensity and dept.

It makes me crazy when I see comments like that. I always whip out my list of Kdramas and Kfilms (especially!) with explicit sex, also older Kdramas that had plenty of bedroom scenes but then a right wing government in the 2010s clamped down on it. It's not because Koreans don't like to f***

Shot by Park Jung Hoon, the same cinematographer of 'The Villainess' that won him a price for best cinematography at the Bell awards, being at a very young age. He has done only Kfilms since and one kdrama, 'Home Town Cha Cha Cha' and now this one 'The East Palace'. Absolutely stunning.

Hmmmm... #ThePriest is also another good one, reminds me of The Exorcist but in kdrama, #TaleOfTwoSisters and #HorrorMate are pretty good too, they're KFilms though. #DevilsStay sounds like an interesting watch but I haven't started that yet.

There's a whole universe of kfilms waiting for me--I'm more a drama watcher (I like to immerse in a world for a long time). Alas there is no way I will ever watch Beyond Evil 🤣 so not my genre. But I will def check out The Auditors. Thank you!!!
