Oh my gosh I LOVE this - my best friend writes Alastor as a Kouri-Vini speaker and she actually attends Cambridge so this is PERFECT!

Oliver Mayeux, Cambridge University linguist, "said they were the oldest known examples of someone speaking Louisiana Creole, also known as Kouri-Vini. (Older recordings exist, from 1934, but the language is sung rather than spoken.)"

When I get enough time I’m gonna translate Al’s part into kouri vini: when he sings “let’s begin” in Louisiana Creole it’s: 🎶alon komensé…🎶

Love that you're practicing Kouri-Vini out loud! Sharing your learning journey like this is so inspiring. How did you first get into the language?

Y'all I'm excited, while I didn't learn much when I was little to be fluent myself, I've been taking the time lately to try to pick up both Kouri-Vini and Louisiana French because they were endangered languages and there's been enough of a push to not lose them that there's now a language app. 🥰

Louisiana Creole is not French and it has its own name: Kouri Vini

Creole and Cajun are two different groups.

It is actually very weird that #Alastor busts out a single random sentence of plain French, unless it’s to indicate he was educated in the language somehow. Or it’s an error.

Kouri-Vini started out as a pidgin. By the time the first and second generations of children belonging to the Enslaved were born, It became a bona fide language.

Kouri-Vini and Louisiana French (often called Cajun French etc) are sister languages.

Kouri-Vini is NOT broken French!

Kouri-Vini (Louisiana Creole), sometimes called "Gombo" and a few other endonyms; was the only language in Louisiana territory that was created by Enslaved Senegambians (Bambara, Mande, Wolof, Fon, Fulani etc) borrowing from French, Spanish, African, and Indigenous Languages.

If you ever see me writing in my heritage language, Kouri-Vini (Louisiana Creole); be aware that the writing system is phonetic. For a long time the language was oral and when it was written it was done in a Gallicized (Frenchy) system.

V Americe přibývá důchodců, kteří kouří marihuanu. Okolí to začíná vadit

anyway, here's some #RadioShade / #RadioShadow before I go back to work, featuring human Alastor's first time bottoming and his relationship with Nwar being fucking precious as always

Fun fact: mòché means 'half' in Kouri-Vini, as in, 'my other half.'

i did eat the toaster strudel. he was from Bull’s Gap, TN. he has one of those llama haircuts, was here for work, and absolutely hated it. he told me quite earnestly that “voodoo is illegal in Tennessee.” my current tenant is his opposite. she’s from L.A. and taking Kouri Vini lessons.
