I don't have a problem with this idea – they could even add stuff like professional cookery – but would prefer to see added to compulsory subjects through KS4 a new single subject of Critical Thinking (to cover essential philosophy & politics, anthropology, media & misinformation...)
'From 2029, pupils [in England] will be able to supplement compulsory GCSE subjects such as English, maths and sciences with courses such as construction, creative media production and child development, marking the biggest changes to the qualification for more than a decade.'
Pupils to be offered vocational GCSEs in radical shake-up of system in England

I've spent time in PRUs for school refusing kids. 45% of KS4 already a vocational qual + I don't object to them existing. I do really object to the idea that some people are academic and some people good with their hands.

Crap headline of the week. As there's no mention of climate change in the current national curriculum before students are in KS4, and even at GCSE it's a tiny fraction of what they learn, I'm not convinced their anxiety is due to the formal education system🧵
