Then, we're thinking about ways we can scaffold and support our A Level students to make the most of their independent study (learningtoteachgeography.substack.com/p/scaffoldin...) - not just doing more 'wide reading', but being strategic about what we are using that time for.
Scaffolding A Level students to get the best out of independent study
For KS5 geography students, the biggest challenge is often not ability, or their geographical learning, but knowing how to study independently in an effective way. Many students arrive from GCSE havin...

Out of 86 scientists in GCSE & equivalent exam board specifications, just 1 is a woman.

The study found a "compelling correlation" between this and the STEM subjects girls study at KS5.

Need to change things up!

Women scientists almost entirely omitted from exam boards’ compulsory learning material for UK schools
An absence of women scientists featured in UK exam board specifications for science could be a factor in the disproportionate number of girls dropping STEM subjects at 16, and contributing to the gend...

Plenty of people with QTS for 11-16 don't teach KS5.
Others in a secondary maths department might be glad if you didn't want to teach A level as there are sometimes more people who want to teach A level than A level classes. I have seen 2 primary people join as KS3 specialists, it went well.

#MathsToday we were discussing careers today? Do you do anything with KS5 that links to careers especially linking to specific topics? Good sites for videos etc. I know there's the maths careers website but I'm interested in what you do as a department to share the ideas. Thanks

The job isn’t created by anyone leaving. We are increasing capacity to free up the trust director as she’s no longer needed as a permanent fixture at our place, and to be able to offer things like Level 2 FM and Axiom plus freeing up our KS5 specialists for some extra y13 intervention.

New petition: Review exam and assessment pressures in the KS4 and KS5 curriculums
We are concerned that high exam pressure in Key Stage 4 and 5 is fuelling a severe youth mental health crisis. The Government must conduct an urgent review to look at how to reduce assessment pressure and inject vital new funding into school mental health awareness and professional support.

PM Targets? Sorted.

1. Support SLT with backward-faded same-difficulty rich tasks during detentions.

2. Support the school nurse to deliver ofsted-ready formula triangles at lunchtimes.

3. Increase the efficacy of increasingly-difficult real-life generative learning with KS5.
