Kakapo had a record-breaking breeding season and hatched 105 eggs!!! Considering there are only like 235 kakapo, that is a big deal!!!! Also, look at this baby!!!!!!

Our team have been checking on the #kakapo on Pukahereka/Coal Island, in south-west Fiordland, New Zealand. This is the newest kākāpō island, established last year and currently containing 13 males. Here's Kenneth, by ranger Maddy Whittaker. #conservation #parrots #birds

The kākāpo population number officially now starts with a 3!!!!
325 #kakapo! The chicks from this year's record breeding season are now juveniles and so have been added to the population. In 1995 there were just 51 kākāpō left. Recovery of critically endangered species _is_ possible with sustained effort. #kakapo2026 #conservation #parrots

Sir David Attenborough has a soft spot for #kakapo. We named a kākāpō after him (Attenborough the bird is now ten years old, living on Te Kākahu) and he kindly narrated a short video for us about them, which you can see here: youtu.be/5eZVjQowNvw?.... #attenborough #conservation

100 #kakapo chicks?! They won’t all survive and the season’s tally will end up quite a lot less than that, but that’s our current guess at how many have hatched so far. #kakapo #conservation #wildlife

We found a 4th egg in #kakapo Waikawa's nest yesterday and found it was fertile. Waikawa has maintained her incredible 100% fertility record: 5 clutches of 4 fertile eggs in 4 breeding seasons. That's unmatched by any other kākāpō. #kakapo2026 #conservation #birds
