#Kakinuma
From the December 1981 issue of Hobby Japan, an article by Hideki Kakinuma (the same Kakinuma behind Gall Force, maybe?) about the Starships line of miniatures manufactured by Superior Models in the US. A lot of these were sorta kinda Star Trek and Star Wars inspired.

During the Shino Kakinuma and Toshio Furukawa panel at Animazement, I asked Furukawa-sensei what it was like to return to Lupin the Third in Lupin Zero after having been away from the franchise for so long since he played Lupin in The Fuma Conspiracy (1/6)

Screenwriter Sukehiro Tomita has said that Mospeada's "loser/underdog" atmosphere was a part of the original pitch by Kakinuma and Aramaki. It certainly helped to set the series apart from its peers.

(Psst, you can read that interview with Tomita on our Patreon www.patreon.com/cw/zimmerit)

Robotech is made of three different Japanese series by Japanese animators cut up and edited together. the writers of robotech tried to cover it up and claim it as their own.

This is plagiarism.

Give your thanks to Shoji Kawamori, Shinji Aramaki, Hideki Kakinuma, Yasuo Hasegawa, & Jinzo Toriumi

Free #witmonth story via Guernica:

"Go For It" by Masami Kakinuma (1985- ) (translated by Sharni Wilson)

"Yuto stared up at the ceiling...

"Lying in his futon, he couldn’t get to sleep—by his side, his gran was reading him folktales."
Out now, 'Go for it' by Masami Kakinuma (transl. me) featured in Guernica's Global Spotlights.
Set in Tokyo and rural Iwate, it blends folklore with modern-day struggles to adult, reconnecting with family and stepping up. Plus some cool yokai www.guernicamag.com/go-for-it/
Go for it
A quietly enchanted story of family, folklore, and the courage to recognise happiness before it passes you by.

In the ADV DVD interviews they talk about how Mospeada was originally created by Artmic staffers Aramaki and Kakinuma but creative control of the show was basically taken over by Tatsunoko who hired writers who were essentially established and sort of conservative.

That's correct. Macross is considered one of the first shows to be helmed by creatives who grew up on anime.

There's this great photo with Ichiro Itano from the making of Megazone 23 and you can see how a motorcycle guy irl would totally be behind it.

I interviewed Furukawa Toshio some years ago, where he explained to me that Daioja is basically a reference to the period drama Mito Koumon.

That's definitely the kind of thing that I would have never realized on my own.

Working on a video that talks about this, but yeah, AnimEigo's wiki has commentary by most of the directors that discuss it: wiki.animeigo.com/wiki/doku.ph...

Akiyama Katsuhito and Hideki Kakinuma both talk about it.
