Walt Disney Co. is investing in Japanese anime exclusives and extending a Korean superhero franchise as part of its push for a bigger slice of the Asian streaming market. Disney+the expanding Netflix rival, has renewed superhero drama Moving for a second season, the Burbank, California-based company said at its APAC content showcase in Singapore on Thursday. The series, created by South Korean webtoon artist Kangfull, blossomed into a global hit and earned more than 10 industry awards, Disney said. The company is also deepening its partnership with Kangfull with the upcoming horror mystery series Light Shop.

Channel A has confirmed a February 15th premiere date for its new weekend drama The Witch, releasing a first teaser featuring stars Park Jin Young and Roh Jeong Eui. The series adapts another work from hit webtoon creator Kangfull, known for Moving and Light Shop. The Witch follows Dong Jin (Park Jin Young), a man determined to break the curse of misfortune surrounding a woman called a witch, and Mi Jung (Roh Jeong Eui), a woman who has isolated herself from the world after becoming a seed of tragedy. The mystery romance chronicles their journey toward becoming each other’s salvation. The series is helmed by director Kim Tae Gyun, known for his taut direction in Dark Figure of Crime. The newly released teaser sets up the mysterious romantic narrative, opening with high school student Dong Jin encountering the melancholic Mi Jung on a snowy day. She’s surrounded by strange rumors at school following a student’s freak lightning accident, with whispers of “Park Mi Jung was with him again” and “They say it’s because of Park Mi Jung.” Mi Jung herself confesses, “Strange things have happened around me since I was young,” before ultimately leaving school due to the persistent rumors. Years later, Dong Jin becomes a highly respected data miner who encounters Mi Jung again in a subway. When he overhears her name, he sees a man confessing, “I like you, Mi Jung,” to a woman wearing a low-pulled hat as if hiding her existence. She responds hostilely, “What do you even know about me?” The production’s central mystery revolves around how Dong Jin can save this woman dubbed a “witch” who seems followed by a curse of death. The production team shared, “The first teaser shows how Dong Jin meets Mi Jung again after keeping her in his heart for so long, and begins his journey to break her cycle of misfortune.
