Businesses, merchants, families, and individuals donate torii gates to express gratitude for fulfilled wishes or to petition for ongoing commercial success. Today, over 10,000 vibrant vermilion gates span the forest trails of the sacred mountain. The vermilion color (shu-iro), traditionally made using cinnabar and red lead, carries deep spiritual significance in Shinto cosmology, believed to ward off evil spirits and preserve the underlying wood against decay.

Hinako is deeply spiritual in that she feels intrinsic link with the divinity in nature itself, with the kami that reside in all of creation, in a less concrete way than could be prescribed to most religions. The Twelve do not override that and she is respectful to them, likewise Hydaelyn.

While I'm thinking about parents - Rinh's "father figure" was the kannushi that raised (and enshrined) her. She doesn't honestly remember him as clearly as she should. She wasn't a child when she left, but she kind of holds on to a child's version of him in her mind.
