Following modernisation in 1977, this station was renamed Kelvinhall and is now one of only two on the network entered via a tenement.

Hillhead underground station, photographed in 1971 before it was modernised, by Mrs A. Robertson of East Kilbride. Note the old station names: Partick Cross (now Kelvinhall) and Copland Rd (now Ibrox). Merkland St is the only ghost station on the line.

This is one of my favourite photos of the Glasgow Subway, a Subway station right next to a Subway restaurant.

Y'know what, there were a couple of guys outside of Kelvinhall station who were looking at a phone, and I'm sure they were saying "all clear", and one of them was grinning and gave me a fist bump, and I hope I heard them right and that they really were happy and ready to celebrate something amazing.

The rooftop of Kelvin Hall on Argyle Street in Glasgow in the late evening sun. Built in 1926, it was designed by Thomas P.M. Somers as an exhibitiion hall.

Good morning, Glasgow. After yesterday's rather changeable weather, things seem like they're back to being more stable and spring-like today, especially with the cherry blossoms starting to appear across the city.

Between Riverside Museum and Kelvinhall
March 17, 2026 at 3:45 PM
I've moaned about the pedestrian "route" from the Riverside Museum to Partick before but today I discovered quite a direct route to Kelvinhall instead, depending on your feelings about slightly dodgy railway bridges

So does anyone recall Scatchards, either in Strathbungo or at Kelvinhall?
March 12, 2026 at 1:05 PM
Scatchards was open from the late 1940s. I'm unsure when it closed, but the business had such a long history that the shop contents were donated to Glasgow Museums and it re-opened on the Kelvinhall Transport Museum's Kelvin Street (1988-2010). I don't think it made it to the new Riverside Museum.
